Well there’s always February … and March … and April BYU’s Gabi Garcia Fernandez and David Gardini, NJIT’s Luca Berger and Rogque Nido, Long Beach State’s Mason Briggs and Penn State’s Cole Bogner all advanced to the championship round of the Off the Block National Player of the Month. Hawaii men’s volleyball: 3 Rainbow Warriors up for Off The Block awards

Rado Parapunov (opposite), Gage Worsley (libero) and Patrick Gasman (middle) are on the ballots for Off the Block national players of the month. It’s a two-round tournament with the winners decided through online voting on the OTB website. Finalists in the first round are placed into one of five ballots based on their position. Congrats to Hawaii outside hitter Chaz Galloway, named Freshman of the Week by the Big West. In his first two career starts, Galloway helped the Rainbow Warriors sweep Lincoln Memorial and King on the road with .667 hitting, putting away 13 kills with one error in 18 attempts. The annual alumni match is at 7 p.m. Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Free admission. Doors open at 6 p.m. Skills challenges start at 6:15 p.m. At Sunday’s 10th A’o a Koa Scholarship Fundraiser, former Rainbow Warrior Kai Kahele will receive the Pae Makaukau Recognition Award.
