Jaylen Jasper reflects on island time

Even minutes after Stanford fell in straight sets to Hawaii for the second time in three nights, Cardinal opposite Jaylen Jasper was filled with appreciation, not disappointment. His perspective? It was a pretty cool trip for someone with his family history. Hawaii (3-0) stayed at No. 2 for a second consecutive week in the AVCA Division I-II Men’s Volleyball Top 15 released on Monday. Ahead of Hawaii was unanimous No. 1 Long Beach State (7-0), the defending national champion receiving all 16 first-place votes. Congrats to Walker, alumni award winner; Saturday scores

Hawaii men’s volleyball assistant coach Josh Walker will receive the program’s Pae Makaukau Alumni Recognition Award at Sunday’s 9th A’o a Koa Scholarship Dinner at the Stan Sheriff Center. Walker, a former Rainbow Warrior outside hitter, ranks fifth in program history in kills (1,428) and was named a second-team AVCA All-American as a junior in 2010. The UH men’s volleyball alumni-varsity match is this Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center, 7 p.m. A skills contest is first at 6 p.m. Skills include serving, setting, and hitting contests between current and former players. An autograph session follows. Hawaii (3-0) moved up a spot to No. 2 in today’s AVCA Coaches Division I-II Top 15, trading places with UC Irvine (6-1). The complete poll is here.
