Hawaii rising senior Colton Cowell is having himself a productive summer with USA Volleyball. While the Volleyball Nations League is underway for the U.S.’s top-flight players, the 6-foot-2 Cowell — a key hitter on the UH team that finished runner-up to Long Beach State this spring — is playing on the Pan American Cup team for up-and-comers that is competing in Colima, Mexico since last weekend. The U.S. men’s national team, with six players with Hawaii ties on the 14-man travel roster, won its fourth consecutive FIVB Volleyball Nations League match on today, defeating host France, 23-25, 25-22, 28-26, 27-25, in Cannes. Setter Micah Chirstenson (Kamehameha) had the U.S. hitting .434. and was in on three blocks. Erik Shoji (Punahou) was at libero for the entire match. Former University of Hawaii All-American middle Taylor Averill had nine kills and two blocks, and setter Kawika Shoji (‘Iolani) added four kills and two aces as the U.S. men’s national team won its third consecutive match when defeating Germany in Volleyball Nations League pool play on today in Cannes, France. Behind the setting of Kamehameha graduate Micah Christenson, the U.S. men’s national volleyball team defeated Argentina 25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21 in a Nations Volleyball League pool play match today in Cannes, France. Christenson had two kills and two blocks (assists number was unavailable), and had the U.S. hitting .454. Hawaii men’s volleyball: Taylor Averill, Tui Tuileta activated for VNL matches this week

Two former Rainbow Warriors, middle Taylor Averill and libero Tui Tuileta, have made the U.S. men’s national team 14-player travel roster for the third week of Volleyball Nations League (VNL) action Friday through Sunday. It means that all six players with island ties are on the trip. The roster has 25 players. The U.S. Men (2-4) will play Argentina (2-4), Germany (2-4) and France (5-1). The U.S. men’s national team finished Volleyball Nations League second round with a 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17 win over Portugal on Sunday to finish 1-2 in Russia. Hawaii volleyball: Wahine add setter Bailey Choy; U.S. men 1-2

Hawaii makes it official. Paperwork cleared today (June 4). Setter Bailey Choy has transferred to Hawaii from Utah for her final season. The ‘Iolani graduate is one of three transfers on the 2019 Rainbow Wahine roster, joining five freshmen. Choy is finishing her undergraduate degree at Utah and has been accepted into the master’s program at UH’s Shidler College of Business.
