Let the development begin. The Hawaii Development League, or rebranded College Summer League, actually has been going for about a week now with its women’s half of competition. But Monday night at St. Francis School’s gymnasium, the next generation of the long-running league really got going. Local hoops veterans Derrick Low and Kyle Pape spearheaded the renovation/revolution, but got help from others behind the scenes. Many of the old veterans that populated the league, for better or worse, have been […]
The entire UH men’s basketball team is enrolled in the second summer session, which began today. Attendance is key because 1) the Warriors can have full participation in the eight hours of individual/team drills they are allowed each week during the summer, and 2) it will ease the way for the extra practices granted in advance of next month’s trip to Australia. Among the newcomers are combo guard Eddie Stansberry, and post players Dawson Carper and Owen Hulland. Kapolei High […]
Eran Ganot has some staffing up to do this offseason. Oregon State announced the addition of UH hoops assistant Marlon Stewart as the Beavers’ new director of operations on Tuesday. Stewart, formerly an assistant at Montana, lasted just one year in Manoa as the team’s defensive coordinator and post players coach. Effective pretty much immediately, I’m going to be a general assignment sports reporter, focused on UH sports coverage and helping our online content. Exactly how much of each remains to be hammered out. You’re in very experienced hands as far as your UH men’s hoops content, as Stephen Tsai […]
The dates and cities are confirmed. Hawaii men’s basketball is going to Australia. It will be Aug. 8 to 18, between Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane. UH is expected to play one Australian pro/club team (to be announced) at each stop. The Rainbow Warriors will begin its 10 allotted practices for the trip in late July. UH affirmed the whole team will make the trip, including incoming players Owen Hulland, Dawson Carper and Eddie Stansberry. (Mate Colina as well; he’s […]
It’s been a while, Hawaii hoops fans. Here’s something worthwhile to make up for a quiet stretch for offseason news. UH coach Eran Ganot told the Star-Advertiser on Thursday night that guard Brocke Stepteau is set to receive a scholarship for his senior season of 2018-19. It’s been a long time coming for the 5-foot-9 Dallas native, who walked on in 2014-15 when Gib Arnold was still the coach, then endured two coaching changes to help guide Eran Ganot’s Rainbow […]
While we’re still awaiting details on the Hawaii basketball team’s biggest event of the offseason — the planned foreign tour to Australia — the Rainbow Warriors’ second-biggest operation has been mapped out. Summer camps. That’s right, it’s the time of year for your son, daughter, niece or nephew to get some hands-on training from UH staff and players. You can find full details here. There are two straightforward skills/fundamentals camps, and two shooting clinics. Here’s a summary of dates and prices: Camp […]
