Hawaii was one of 198 women’s teams and 19 men’s teams to receive the AVCA Team Academic Award. Teams had to maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA. The other half of David Matlin’s “game-changer” upgrades to Hawaii’s basketball and volleyball practice facilities has been realized. That’s what the $9-10 million project was called by the UH athletic director last year. And reality appears to have lived up to vision. Hawaii is adding Oregon junior hitter/libero Brooke Van Sickle, the third former Duck who will be on the Rainbow Wahine roster in fall. Dad Gary played for the Rainbow Warriors (1988-90) and mom Lisa (Bragado) played for Hawaii Pacific and was on the AVP. Brooke missed most of 2017 (played in six matches) after a season-ending injury. Van Sickle played in 67 career matches spanning three seasons. She started 30 matches and played in all 31 matches as a freshman. […]

Hawaii makes it official. Paperwork cleared today (June 4). Setter Bailey Choy has transferred to Hawaii from Utah for her final season. The ‘Iolani graduate is one of three transfers on the 2019 Rainbow Wahine roster, joining five freshmen. Choy is finishing her undergraduate degree at Utah and has been accepted into the master’s program at UH’s Shidler College of Business.
