Injuries will limit the UH rotation to just seven players for the 7 p.m. exhibition at the Stan Sheriff Center. “It’s a little nerve wracking going into a game where you have only seven players,” Beeman said after Tuesday’s practice. Although Lahni Salanoa counts among the returnees to the Rainbow Wahine basketball team, Friday’s Green and White scrimmage may have represented the sophomore’s true introduction. Last year’s scrimmage marked the start of a frustrating freshman season for Salanoa. She suffered a deep cut on her hand during the scrimmage that set her back. By Jason Kaneshiro on October 12, 2016

The Rainbow Wahine basketball team’s numbers dipped with injuries to two freshmen this week. But there also was a sense of relief that the knee injuries sustained by forward Keleah-Aiko Koloi and guard Courtney Middap in Monday’s practice at the Stan Sheriff Center weren’t more severe. UH coach Laura Beeman said Koloi could be back in a week to 10 days while Middap is likely to miss between three to four weeks. Although the freshmen will be sidelined for a […]

After a weekend off the court and out of their comfort zone, the Rainbow Wahine got back to work on Monday at the Stan Sheriff Center to start their second week of practice. UH coach Laura Beeman said the team had to knock off some rust in the return from its annual retreat while moving ahead in its preparation for the season. “Coming back a little mentally fried from a fun weekend, we knew (Monday) was going to be a […]

Wahine focus on fundamentals

By Jason Kaneshiro on October 7, 2016

The undulating mood in the Stan Sheriff Center on Thursday seemed to illustrate the growth process for the Rainbow Wahine basketball team. At one point the Wahine celebrated a run of well-executed plays with shouts, dancing and laughter. Later, the atmosphere quieted considerably during a ragged five-on-five period. Working through the roller coaster is part of the deal for a youthful roster. “That’s young,” UH coach Laura Beeman said after the workout. “It’s really easy to have high highs and […]
