A few former Hawaii women’s basketball teammates have reunited on another island. Four-year Rainbow Wahine players Sarah Toeaina and Lahni and Leah Salanoa are teammates competing for American Samoa in the 2019 Pacific Games, an Olympic-style multi-sport competition between island nations and territories of Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia held every four years. Hawaii women’s basketball: Sarah Toeaina is British MVP in first pro season

The professional career of former Hawaii women’s basketball star Sarah Toeaina is off to a rousing start. Toeaina, of the Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters in the Women’s British Basketball League (WBBL), was named league MVP today after putting up some huge numbers. She averaged 20 points and 9.7 rebounds in the 2018-19 season for the Hatters, who were just knocked out in the league semifinals. Rainbow Wahine basketball headed to Saint Mary’s in WNIT

For its second straight WNIT appearance and for the third time in 10 overall showings in the event, the Hawaii women’s basketball team has been dispatched to Moraga, Calif., to face Saint Mary’s in the opening round. The wild ride of the 2018-19 Hawaii women’s basketball team isn’t over just yet. Shortly after its 58-50 loss to top-seeded UC Davis in the Big West championship game, UH announced that the Rainbow Wahine will make their 10th all-time appearance in the WNIT. The Hawaii women’s basketball team finally learned the identity of its Big West tournament semifinal opponent. Second-seeded UH will meet third-seeded UC Riverside at 11:30 a.m. (HST) Friday at the Honda Center. It is a credit to the Hawaii men’s and women’s basketball teams that they have done what they’ve done in their respective 2019 conference seasons without possessing a singularly dominant player. Fourth place in the Big West for the Rainbow Warriors with a 9-7 record (18-12 overall). Second place for the Rainbow Wahine at 10-6 (14-15 overall).
