June Jones says he’s not interested in AD post

By Dave Reardon on January 16, 2015

June Jones said for the record Friday he is not interested in being University of Hawaii athletic director. “I won’t be applying,” said Jones, who was at Waialae Country Club following rookie Tony Finau at the Sony Open in Hawaii’s second round. Jones did say, however, that he would possibly like to coach football at UH again. He was the Warriors head coach from 1999 to 2007, taking the program to unprecedented heights. Sources had said in recent weeks Jones […]

By Dave Reardon on January 15, 2015

Kala’i Santos made the 74-foot shot. The Star-Advertiser’s Paul Honda got it on video. Keith Amemiya showed it to Neil Everett at ESPN. Everett’s producer liked it. And that’s how Punahou’s buzzer beater made it on SportsCenter’s Plays of the Day tonight.

UH spokesman talks about search committee

By Dave Reardon on January 14, 2015

On Tuesday when the UH AD search committee list was announced I had a few questions for chancellor Robert Bley-Vroman. UH spokesman Dan Meisenzahl said Bley-Vroman was not available, but Meisenzahl addressed the questions on behalf of UH DR: The initial reaction, including from me, is that the committee seems light on coaches, athletic administrators. DM: I can say that we’re not going to comment on who was approached and not approached. The chancellor’s office received a lot of input […]

By Dave Reardon on January 12, 2015

There’s no selection committee yet, no state-required ad posted yet. But that doesn’t stop people from talking, and doesn’t stop unfounded rumors from turning into plausible speculation as to whom will be candidates for the University of Hawaii athletic director position. UH spokesman Dan Meisenzahl told me Sunday there will be an announcement from the school this week regarding the AD position, but would not specify what it might be. Five names have surfaced and none of the five have […]

Happy New Year. I hope 2015 is treating you all well so far and will continue to as the year advances. I just returned from the Rose Bowl, and Marcuspalooza continues on in full swing! On to the national championship game for Hawaii’s Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota and the Oregon Ducks. And, yes, Mariota is as nice a guy and as genuinely caring about other people as all the stories you’ve read or heard indicate. He treats strangers with […]
