By Warrior World on October 12, 2019

In the Nick Rolovich era, every time the University of Hawaii football team appears ready to take a big step forward, it flies into reverse. No. 14-ranked Boise State showed why it rules supreme in the Mountain West Conference by beating Hawaii 59-37 before a sellout homecoming crowd of nearly 37,000 at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho. The curse of the blue Smurf turf continued for the Rainbow Warriors as they dropped to 0-7 lifetime in the famed facility in […]

Hawaii Football Throwbacks: Boise State

By Brian McInnis on October 12, 2019

The Hawaii football team has taken on Boise State on “The Blue” six times entering today’s ESPN2-televised matchup at Albertsons Stadium. Of those, the Rainbow Warriors have played the Broncos within a touchdown only once — the Sept. 23, 2006 meeting between Colt Brennan’s ‘Bows and and the storied Broncos of Jared Zabransky and Ian Johnson. It’s no secret that the all-time series between UH and BSU has been heavily skewed to the Broncos — 12-3 overall. And there have […]

Warrior Beat: Hawaii football’s Michael Eletise receives waiver to play this season

By Stephen Tsai on October 11, 2019

BOISE >> The NCAA approved a waiver that allows Hawaii offensive lineman Michael Eletise to play this football season. Eletise practiced during the appeal process that forced him to miss the Warriors’ first five games. At issue was the rule requiring football players transferring between NCAA Division I programs to sit out a season. The exceptions are if the player earns a bachelor’s degree or receives a legislative-relief waiver. Eletise, a Kaiser High graduate, was at Arizona for three seasons […]

Hawaii football: JoJo Ward receives Hula Bowl invitation

By Stephen Tsai on October 10, 2019

The Warriors’ best deep threat — right wideout JoJo Ward — has been invited to play in the new version of the Hula Bowl in January. Ward leads the UH regulars in yards per catch (14.9). He also has a team-high six catches of 25-plus yards. Seventeen of his 28 receptions have resulted in first downs. Ward has six TD catches. Hula Bowl director Rich Miano said Ward was an easy choice because of his “ability to run linear. He’s […]

VIDEO: Hawaii football ain’t afraid of no ghosts

By Brian McInnis on October 8, 2019

The ghosts of road struggles past had no hold on Hawaii football when it took to Chris Ault Field at Mackay Stadium field on Sept. 28. UH entered that game 1-8 all-time against Nevada in Reno. That, and constant drizzle in chilly weather mattered not as the Rainbow Warriors put together their most complete game of the season — and arguably in years — in steamrolling the Wolf Pack 54-3. Now the Rainbow Warriors (4-1, 1-0 Mountain West) prepare to embark for […]

Hawaii football: Victory omelets, Boise State game week

By Stephen Tsai on October 7, 2019

Because of last week’s bye, the Warriors delayed celebrating their Sept. 28 rout of Nevada until this morning. That meant every UH student-athlete participating in the training-table program this semester had the option of specially made omelets for his or her breakfast. * * * * * * The Warriors received a boost with offensive lineman Kohl Levao, who hasn’t played this season after suffering an injury on the fourth day of training camp, working with the first unit. Levao […]

Rainbow Forecast: Hawaii football’s showdown in Boise, volleyball’s at Central Cali Coast

By Brian McInnis on October 7, 2019

It’s a pivotal week in conference play for both the Hawaii football and women’s volleyball teams. The Rainbow Warriors, well rested coming off a bye week and still feeling good following the 54-3 beatdown of Nevada in Reno, head up to Boise to take on the No. 14 Broncos on The Blue, a place they’ve never won. The No. 19 Rainbow Wahine? All they have to do is head up the Central California Coast for matchups on consecutive days with […]
