Hawaii football: As Rainbow Warriors history shows, a ‘quarterback controversy’ isn’t necessarily a bad thing

By Dave Reardon on November 15, 2019

If you take the words “quarterback controversy” and just run with it, it could mean a lot of different things. For example, should Mason Rudolph also be punished for his part in the fight at the end of Thursday’s game between the Steelers and the Browns that ended with Myles Garrett hitting Rudolph on the head with his own helmet? It’s a “controversy,” and it involves a “quarterback,” right? OK, I know, that’s too literal of an interpretation … something […]

Hawaii football: Quarterback competition between Chevan Cordeiro and Cole McDonald will go on the road to UNLV

By Stephen Tsai on November 12, 2019

Head coach Nick Rolovich did not announce a starting quarterback for Saturday’s road game against UNLV, although indications are Chevan Cordeiro will make his second consecutive start. Both Cordeiro and Cole McDonald, who started the first nine games, have not eased on their training. After this morning’s practice, each was preparing to be the starter. “Competing with him, both of us get better,” Cordeiro said. “That’s great about him. Shoot, he’s probably one of the best quarterbacks. Competing against him […]

Rainbow Forecast: Hawaii football battles UNLV; men’s basketball home, women’s hoops away

By Brian McInnis on November 11, 2019

There’s a rare Monday night game for the Hawaii men’s basketball team tonight to kick off a relatively light week of action — especially as home events go — in this edition of the Rainbow Forecast. The No. 18 Rainbow Wahine volleyball team (22-3, 12-2 Big West) is off from games this week after winning at UC Davis and UC Riverside in convincing fashion. UH enjoys a half-game lead over Cal Poly (11-2), but also owns the tiebreaker with two games […]

Hawaii QB Chevan Cordeiro wins Mountain West award

By Stephen Tsai on November 11, 2019

Chevan Cordeiro today was named the Mountain West’s offensive player of the week following a breakout performance in UH’s 42-40 victory over San Jose State. In his first start of the season, Cordeiro accounted for five touchdowns — three passing, two rushing — to tie the league’s freshman record. Cordeiro completed 23 of 31 passes, and was neither intercepted nor sacked. He also gained 55 yards on the ground. Cordeiro is the fourth Warrior to win the honor this season, […]

AP Top 25 College Football Poll: One NC game Clemson’s pride, the other its curse

By Dave Reardon on November 10, 2019

Eventually I probably will, but for now I can’t forget about that NC game. Some Clemson fans can’t get the NC game off of their minds, too. The thing is, we’re talking about two different things. The NC game I haven’t shaken yet was played less than two months ago, on Sept. 28. The Tigers beat North Carolina 21-20 at Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels had a very good chance at the biggest upset of the year, but failed on […]

VIDEO: Fourth-quarter timeline of Hawaii football’s 42-40 win over San Jose State

By Brian McInnis on November 10, 2019

In a late-season twist, redshirt freshman Chevan Cordeiro was called upon to start for Hawaii against San Jose State on Saturday night. The Saint Louis School product came through, throwing for 309 yards and three touchdowns and running for two more in the Rainbow Warriors’ 42-40 victory to improve to 6-4 on the season and 3-3 in the Mountain West. >> PHOTO GALLERY: HAWAII VS. Hawaii football team edges San Jose State 42-40 for Dick Tomey Legacy Trophy

By Warrior World on November 9, 2019

If the University of Hawaii football team entertained any real shot at postseason play, the Rainbow Warriors needed a win over visiting San Jose State — preferably with little fanfare. Check on that first goal. Not so much on the second. >> PHOTO GALLERY: HAWAII VS.
