Hawaii basketball: Injured players Samuta Avea, Bernardo da Silva were missed

By Brian McInnis on February 8, 2020

Every time you looked back at your screen on Thursday, Amadou Sow was rising up for a dunk or a layup. Occasionally even a 3-point shot. The UC Santa Barbara big man had his way of things, shooting 12-for-13 for 30 points in a 76-66 Gauchos win over Hawaii at the Thunderdome. While the Rainbow Warriors’ three 7-footers held down the fort at home when UH beat UCSB 70-63 at the Stan Sheriff Center, you could tell UH was lacking […]

Playing for his hometown St. John’s Edge in the National Basketball League, he’d been a league MVP as recently as two years ago, when he was still scoring points in bunches. English announced his retirement in a Twitter post Friday. He will have a […]

Hawaii men’s volleyball: Reserves again carry day against Queens

By Brian McInnis on February 7, 2020

Given what happened in Hawaii’s last three-day tournament, perhaps it wasn’t all too surprising what transpired on Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. Charlie Wade turned to his backups, by and large, and his backups delivered against Queens on Day 1 of the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Invitational in a 25-10, 25-15, 25-17 sweep. Colton Cowell, Rado Parapunov, and Patrick Gasman were among the “A side” players to have the night off. The “A-plus side” guys had the run […]

Hawaii softball: Rainbow Wahine roll to season-opening win over Northern Colorado

A rocky top of the first inning was long forgotten by the time the University of Hawaii softball team finished off a rollicking bottom of that inning to open the 2020 season. The Rainbow Wahine spotted Northern Colorado a run on a miscommunication in the infield with two out in the first inning on Thursday. But they more than made up for the miscue by pounding out six hits in a nine-run outburst in their first turn at bat to […]
