Hawaii softball: Rainbow Wahine seek Power 5 win

By Brian McInnis on February 26, 2020

A topsy-turvy start to the season for Hawaii softball has featured some impressive hitting and hit-or-miss pitching. One thing that the Rainbow Wahine (8-8) have lacked thus far? A signature win over a power conference opponent. The Wahine are 0-3 against Power Five teams — they lost to Iowa State twice (8-4 and 7-2) in the Paradise Classic and Iowa (2-1) in the Hawaii Invitational. Of those, they were in two of them; they gave up seven runs in the top […]

UH (7-3) opens a three-game series at No. 2 Vanderbilt (8-2) on Friday. The Commodores’ Hawkins Field is located in Nashville, Tenn., making this one of the longest road trips in program history, and a rare opportunity for Mike Trapasso’s team. It is the first time since 2004 UH is facing the […]

Two starting seniors, Eddie Stansberry and Zigmars Raimo, will be sent off Saturday against UC Riverside, win or loss. But as for UH […]

Washington State narrowly avoided the series defeat to the Rainbow Warriors (7-3), as the come-from-behind victory tied up the series at 2-2. The loss came in spite of a near-perfect performance for starting pitcher Brandon Ross (1-0). Making his second start of the season, the junior college transfer […]

Hawaii -Washington State baseball: Game 4

By Stephen Tsai on February 23, 2020

There was anger and disappointment in the UH dugout following today’s 6-5 loss to Washington State. Instead of winning the four-game series, the ‘Bows settled for a split as the Cougars rallied for three runs in the eight and three in the ninth against UH’s bullpen. Three takeaways: 1. It was just one of those days for the relievers, who entered with a 1.43 ERA. They gave up seven hits and six runs in two innings. Vince Reilly, who had […]
