Hawaii men’s basketball: Rainbow Warriors turn over new leaf against Cal State Fullerton

By Brian McInnis on February 27, 2020

Hawaii’s first attempt at a small-ball lineup didn’t go so well on Thursday night. The quicker lineup — UH started three guards, and two quicker post players — quickly fell behind Cal State Fullerton. UH reverted to its larger lineup after a few minutes, but that, too, was at first only marginally effective. Some honest-to-goodness fullcourt pressure, though? That did the trick in igniting the Rainbow Warriors back in the game, and ultimately to a 70-59 win over the Titans […]

By Jonathan Chen on February 27, 2020

The Hawaii softball team fell just shy of a Power Five win to open the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament, as a late Oregon State home run undid five shutout innings by the Rainbow Wahine in a 2-1 affair on Thursday night. Sophomore Ashley Murphy got the start in the circle, and despite giving up the late go-ahead home run, she pitched through to the end of the game. With five straight scoreless innings to her name, […]

Hawaii women’s basketball: Top 2 Big West seed still in play for Rainbow Wahine

By Brian McInnis on February 27, 2020

Last Saturday’s 65-48 home loss to league leader UC Davis was a setback for the Hawaii women’s basketball team, make no mistake. It snapped UH’s six-game winning streak and all but ensured Davis will be the No. 1 seed at next month’s Big West tournament. That said, the Rainbow Wahine (14-11, 8-4 Big West) still have the opportunity to do something meaningful in their remaining four games. UH has sole possession of second place entering tonight’s matchup (5 p.m. HST) […]

By Brian McInnis on February 27, 2020

The size differential was as vast as the swath of Pacific Ocean that separated the campuses of the two schools on the Stan Sheriff Center floor on Wednesday night. Hawaii and Nittaidai of Tokyo, Japan, came together to engage in an entertaining contrast of men’s volleyball styles in the first of two exhibitions this week. >> PHOTO GALLERY: HAWAII VS.
