By Warrior World on March 10, 2020

The following is posted on the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s breaking news. The mandate is in response to fears over COVID-19. The Big West notified the participating teams this afternoon that only players, coaches, referees, “essential” personnel and media will be allowed to attend the games. #HawaiiMBB forward Samuta Avea on […]

It is truly sport crossover season (check out the number of categories checked off above). But who’s still buzzing from that epic men’s volleyball five-setter with BYU at the Stan Sheriff Center on Friday? […]

By Brian McInnis on March 9, 2020

Eddie Stansberry headed up Hawaii men’s basketball’s postseason honors by being named to All-Big West first team on Monday morning. The senior shooting guard, who ranks No. 4 on the UH career 3-point list and leads the team with 15.9 points per game, became UH’s first first-teamer since Noah Allen in 2016-17. His 90 3s this year is third in a UH single season. Senior forward/center Zigmars Raimo (9.3 points, 6.8 rebounds per game, 50 steals) was named an All-BWC […]

NCAA baseball: Oregon vs. Hawaii, Game #4

By Stephen Tsai on March 8, 2020

The day game provided few bright spots for the Rainbow Warriors in a 13-2 loss to Oregon at Les Murakami Stadium. > The ‘Bows already had clinched their second series win of the year by winning the first three games. But any hope of a sweep vanished when the Ducks kept scoring and scoring and pitcher Brett Walker kept posting zero after zero. Walker did not allow a baserunner until Tyler Murray‘s single with one out in the sixth. > […]

Hawaii basketball: 4 seeds for Rainbow Warriors, Wahine

By Brian McInnis on March 8, 2020

Sixteen games of conference play brought the Hawaii men’s and women’s basketball teams to the same place on Saturday. That being, the 4 seed in next week’s Big West tournaments. With an 86-82 loss at Cal State Northridge for the men (8-8 Big West) and a 75-58 win over Cal Poly on senior night for the women (9-7), both squads landed pretty squarely in the middle of the pack. In the Rainbow Warriors’ case, that meant a matchup against UC […]

Hawaii baseball: Early bullpen appearance yields career day for Cade Smith as ‘Bows clinch series in dramatic fashion

By Jonathan Chen on March 7, 2020

Needing just one game to clinch a series win over the Oregon Ducks, Game 3 began disastrously for the Hawaii baseball team. In relief of a starting pitcher who couldn’t hit the strike zone, junior Cade Smith was called into duty early in the 7-6 walk-off victory for the Rainbow Warriors (11-5) on Saturday night. “Obviously I wasn’t expecting to go in in the first,” Smith said. “It was just all about giving the team the best chance to win.
