Hawaii beach volleyball: 3 SandBows pairs earn AVCA Top Flight awards

Three pairs from Hawaii were named AVCA Top Flight Award winners today, a program that recognizes success regardless of flight. The duo of Morgan Martin and Pani Napoleon  (21-1) had the second-best winning percentage in the nation at the No. 3 flight. Hawaii’s No. 1 pair of Emily Maglio and Amy Ozee (20-6) and the No. 2 pair of  Ari Homayun and Julia Scoles (19-4) also achieved top-flight status while ranking in the top 10 in win percentage. Hawaii beach volleyball: SandBows seeded 7th, face No. 2 UCLA in NCAA tournament

Hawaii received the at-large bid it was hoping for and will open against UCLA on Friday in the NCAA beach volleyball tournament in Gulf Shores, Ala. Hawaii beach volleyball: Wahine locked in for Big West tournament

The Hawaii beach volleyball team has never lost a Big West tournament dual match, and the Rainbow Wahine have no intention of slipping up now. UH (24-7) departs for Malibu, Calif., as the top seed in the 2019 edition of the seven-team conference showdown that will send a team to the NCAAs in Gulf Shores, Ala. Hawaii beach volleyball: Norene Iosia joins SandBows

Now that spring indoor practice is done, Rainbow Wahine rising senior setter Norene Iosia will join the Hawaii beach volleyball team officially as of today. She was on the beach team for a bit in 2017, going 10-3 with Hannah Zalopany between March 10 and April 2. Hawaii has its inaugural “Alumnae Salute” exhibition starting at 1 p.m. Saturday. The SandBows then go for their fourth consecutive conference title at the Big West tournament April 26-27 at Zuma Beach, Calif.

Hawaii beach volleyball: Maglio-Ozee named AVCA Pair of the Week

Hawaii senior Emily Maglio and junior Amy Ozee were named AVCA/CollegeBeachVB.com’s Pair of the Week on Tuesday. The SandBow duo went 5-0 at Flight 1 last week when hosting the First Foundation Queen’s Cup at Queen’s Beach. This is the second pair to garner this award from Hawaii. Maglio won it with former partner Ka’iwi Schucht March 27, 2018.
