“Play Ball” for UH baseball team

The baseball Rainbow Warriors open their 18th season under Mike Trapasso with tonight’s game against Portland at Les Murakami Stadium. Jeremy Wu-Yelland will throw the first pitch. The ‘Bows will open with this lineup: LF Scotty Scott SS Maaki Yamazaki CF Adam Fogel DH Logan Pouelsen 3B Ethan Lopez RF Jacob Sniffin 1B Alex Baeza 2B Jack Kennelly C Dallas Duarte And did we mention the ‘Bows will be debuting the new retro-styled green jerseys?

It’s a regular refrain for coaches and athletes doing preseason interviews to celebrate “seeing someone new” or “not having to go against ourselves” once actual games are set to begin. UH baseball coach Mike Trapasso announced that Dylan Thomas will be the Rainbow Warriors’ opening-night starting pitcher. Thomas, a fourth-year junior, led the Big West with 14 saves last season. He turned down an offer to sign with the Minnesota Twins this past summer to return to UH. In preseason training, Thomas has cross-trained as a starter and reliever. Announcer/host Josh Pacheco will be the play-by-play announcer for ESPN 1420’s broadcasts of UH baseball game this season. “I would say Josh is a consummate pro,” said Chris Hart, the station’s sales director and co-host of the “Sports Animals” talk show. “He prepares feverishly for all his play-by-play.” Pacheco succeeds UH Circle of Honor inductee Jim Leahey, who announced his retirement from broadcasting last year.
