UH won’t open with Oregon in ’16

After opening the last five seasons against each other, Hawaii and Oregon will take a year off before the Ducks return to Hawaii to start the 2017 season. UH’s 2016 baseball schedule is set, pending any late changes, with New Mexico replacing the Ducks as UH’s opening home series. UH baseball alumni to gather Feb. 7 for hardball, softball

University of Hawaii diamond dandies of all generations will gather Feb. 7 at Murakami Stadium for an alumni day that includes a game against the current Rainbow Warriors at 1 p.m., preceded by a softball game at 11:30 a.m. Organizer Tommy Heffernan said there will also be plenty of food and music and is putting out the call to all alumni to attend. Not everyone in Hawaii will be glued to the TV at 3:30 p.m. for today’s College Football Playoff title game between Oregon and Ohio State. Hawaii baseball coach Mike Trapasso and his staff did a great job gobbling up the local talent for 2016 with five of the eight fall signees announced today from the 808. The signings are: Pono Anderson, RHP, Saint Louis 2014 stats: 5-3, 3.14 ERA, 58 innings pitched, 27 strikeouts, guided Saint Louis to the 2014 state title Adam Bedrossian, INF, Alemany (Calif.)
