G4: Oklahoma 6, Hawaii 3

By Billy Hull on March 15, 2015

All along, I’ve felt Hawaii needed to be at .500 or better heading into Big West Conference play to have a realistic shot at the postseason. To do that, the Rainbow Warriors will need a win today against the Sooners, followed by four wins next week against a 2-15 New Mexico State team. First chance to see LHP Jarrett Arakawa today. Arakawa worked two innings in his first outing last week in Houston. LINEUPS Oklahoma Craig Aikin, CF Taylor Alspaugh, […]

Can Hawaii build off its 2-1 win over Oklahoma last night? A lot will hinge on the pitching of junior right-hander Kyle Von Ruden. Sawelson was struggling with a hip flexor that started to nag him worse and worse as the game wore on. “I’m a little concerned,” Trapasso said. “We’ll see how it feels […]

Pitchers come up clutch for Hawaii

By Billy Hull on March 6, 2015

Hawaii got a much-needed win to open the Houston College Classic on Friday as four pitchers combined to allow only two hits in a 2-1 victory over Baylor. L.J. Brewster made the jump from No. 3 starter to staff ace and continued to show he’s Hawaii’s best option on the mound, allowing two hits in 6 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts to improve his record to 3-1. Hawaii walked six in the game, which is something I wrote about in […]
