One of the things baseball coaches and beat writers have in common is an affinity for pitchers who throw strikes. On Day 3 of the MLB Draft, two former UH baseball players were selected. Reliever Casey Ryan was picked by the Chicago Cubs in the 18th round; third baseman Josh Rojas was taken by the Houston Astros in the 26th round. The Major League Baseball draft continues today. It’s been five years, but it still feels strange that Hawaii, outside of football, is not in the same conference as Fresno State, Nevada or San Jose State. It also doesn’t seem right that UH has less equity than those other schools in the Mountain West because of its football-only affiliation.
