Soup and Sweetness

By Dave Reardon on August 11, 2017

When they were among the best high school baseball players in Seattle in the early 1980s, pitcher Mike Campbell was known as “Soup” for the obvious reason and shortstop Chuck Jackson got the nickname of “Sweetness” for his smooth fielding skills. They both went to the University of Hawaii and make any list of all-time Rainbow greats. Thirty years ago they both achieved their dream and debuted in the Major Leagues. ‘Bows led NCAA in fewest walks allowed

By Stephen Tsai on July 1, 2017

One of the things baseball coaches and beat writers have in common is an affinity for pitchers who throw strikes. Worlds collide

By Stephen Tsai on March 30, 2017

It’s been five years, but it still feels strange that Hawaii, outside of football, is not in the same conference as Fresno State, Nevada or San Jose State. It also doesn’t seem right that UH has less equity than those other schools in the Mountain West because of its football-only affiliation. It would be interesting if UH’s men’s teams competed in the Mountain West while the women remain in the Big West (sort of how it was done a long […]
