Former UH QB hosts free camp

High school-aged quarterbacks and receivers (or students interested in the passing game) are invited to participate in the 2018 Under the Lights clinic. The event is from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 15, at Aloha Stadium. Each participant will receive instruction from prominent coaches, including passing guru Vince Passas, as well as a shirt. Nick Rolovich will be a guest instructor/speaker at today’s One Blood Football Mega Camp on the Azusa Pacific University campus. The football camp has been sold out, although please-please-please requests might boost attendance to between 450 and 500 participants. Ninety coaches from all NCAA levels will be participating. UH coaches attending UCLA, Washington camps

Nick Rolovich is one of the guests at today’s UCLA Elite Camp. UCLA coach Chip Kelly invited Rolovich to the camp, whose participants includes some of the top prospects in the West. UH coaches also are attending today’s Washington’s 2018 Husky Football Rising Stars Camp. In turn, Kelly and Washington coach Chris Petersen are expected to attend Hawaii’s Elite Camp on June 8 and 9 on the Manoa campus.

Tuinei earns scholarship

The son and nephew of UH football titans — Tumua Tuinei — has been placed on scholarship. Tuinei plays safety and on special teams for the Warriors. He also is an up-and-coming standup comedian who has performed at venue across the state. His father is Tom Tuinei, a former UH defensive lineman. His late uncle Mark Tuinei played 15 NFL seasons. Tumua Tuinei is scheduled to earn his bachelor’s degree in December.

Running back Melvin Davis is awaiting medical clearance and a waiver that will allow him to play this season as a sixth-year senior. Davis has missed most of the past two seasons because of illness and a knee injury. The Warriors also are hopeful for a speedy recovery for running back Genta Ito, who underwent s knee procedure last week.
