The Warriors have rebounded after it was ruled that wideouts Kalakaua Timoteo, Isaia Leeth and Karson Greeley did not meet the eligibility requirements to play this coming season. James Green III, a speedy receiver from Cathedral City High in California, told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser he will play for the Warriors this season. Green said he is set to report for the July 26 opening of training camp. Green was initially committed to Montana Tech but instead decided to join UH. He can run 100 meters in a laser-timed 10.75 seconds.

And now there are seven … Quarterback Tanner Darling of Moorpark College told the Star-Advertiser he is joining the Warriors. Wideout John Johnson of Antelope Valley College told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser he is joining the Warriors. Johnson, who is originally from Warner Robins, Ga., is 5-11, 190 pounds, and capable of running 100 meters in 10.86 seconds. He averaged 18.2 yards per catch last season. Linebacker Andrew Choi of Kaiser High is joining the Warriors as a walk-on. Choi is the younger brother of UH defensive tackle Zeno Choi. Andrew Choi is 6-1 and 215 pounds. He is following the path of his older brother, who also joined as a walk-on before being awarded a scholarship last season. Zeno Choi is representing UH at next week’s Mountain West Media Preview. Jack Perez, who was a Division III All-America linebacker at Pacific (Forest Grove, Ore.), has joined the Warriors as a graduate-assistant coach. Perez will work with the defense, primarily tutoring the defensive ends and outside linebackers. Perez had played under UH assistant coach Jacob Yoro at Pacific in 2014. As a Pacific senior in 2016, Perez amassed a school-record 123 tackles, including 15 tackles for loss. The other UH graduate assistants are Jake Thomas and Numi Lolohea.

A defensive leader from one of the state’s top programs — middle linebacker Darius Muasau of Mililani High — told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser he has accepted a 2019 scholarship offer from the Warriors. “I always wanted to stay home,” Muasau said. “It’s a good chance to stay home and represent Hawaii.” Mililani coach Rod York said Muasau is 6 feet 1, 230 pounds, and has been electronically timed running 40 yards in sub-4.8 seconds. “He will be our defensive leader,” […]
