The Warriors saved the Scout Bowl for a rainy day. In a 24-play, (mostly) full-contact scrimmage, quarterback Justin Uahinui had a breakout day. The Rainbow Warriors defeated Portland, 82-64, in tonight’s opening round of the 54th Rainbow Classic. The ‘Bows assisted on 22 of their 31 field goals, and turned the ball over only nine times — two fewer than their per-game goal. But the key was the defensive play to start the second half. After a four-day break, the Warriors resumed practicing this evening. The Warriors, who have a bye this weekend, began the 90-minute workout in late afternoon and ended under the lights at the Ching Athletic Complex. After each game the past two seasons, Jahlani Tavai would emerge from the postgame locker room and answer questions, any questions. The Warriors’ fortunes turned on a January night in 1999. Vince Manuwai, then a Farrington High senior, was set to make good on a verbal commitment to Utah.
