By Stephen Tsai on January 6, 2019

UH’s student body is gaining a big body when the spring semester begins tomorrow morning. Eliki Tanuvasa, a former All-State center from Saint Louis School, has completed his transfer from Eastern Illinois and will be joining the Rainbow Warriors. Tanuvasa was named to the FCS’s 2018 All-Freshman third team as true first-year player this past season. Tanuvasa, who is 6 feet 2 and 315 pounds, said he decided to transfer because 1) he wanted to help his father, who has […]

Warrior Beat: Hoops captains

By Stephen Tsai on January 5, 2019

Call me a paleontologist because here’s some old news: Brocke Stepteau and Drew Buggs are this season’s basketball captains. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I missed the news. But both are good players with tremendous leadership qualities.

Warrior Beat: Ursua sets training schedule

By Stephen Tsai on January 3, 2019

Former UH slotback John Ursua will depart Jan. 12 to train in Arizona ahead of the Warriors’ Pro Day and the 2019 NFL Draft. Ursua will work out under Chad Ikei, who recently relocated his training business to Arizona. Ursua said he has healed from a hamstring injury suffered four days before the Dec. 22 SoFi Hawaii Bowl. * * * * * Quarterback Jeremy Moussa‘s decision to transfer was not surprising nor unprecedented. Since 2000, these quarterbacks left the […]

Warrior Beat: QB Moussa leaving Warriors

By Stephen Tsai on January 2, 2019

Quarterback Jeremy Moussa has decided to leave the Warriors and transfer to a junior college, head coach Nick Rolovich confirmed to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Moussa, who joined the Warriors as an early admission in January 2018, played in two games in 2018 — a limitation that enabled him to redshirt and still have four seasons of eligibility remaining. He completed four of nine passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. Despite having the strongest arm among the UH quarterbacks, Moussa […]

Warrior Beat: Curran update

Representatives for Bobby Curran have been assured that UH’s radio play-by-play announcer will not be charged over an incident that occurred last week. Curran, 63, was arrested following a confrontation with his 15-year-old son. His attorney termed it as an argument that escalated into a wrestling match. There were no reported serious injuries. Curran said he will discuss the matter at 7:30 a.m. Thursday during his daily radio show on KKEA 1420-AM. Curran, who has been on vacation for more […]

Game Day: UH vs. Alabama A&M

By Stephen Tsai on December 29, 2018

The Rainbow Warriors wrap up their pre-conference schedule with tonight’s game against Alabama A&M. For the ‘Bows, this game will lead to a much-needed period of practices and rest. As head coach Eran Ganot noted, not many student-athletes have played on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas. The Bulldogs have struggled the past several years. They finished last among 351 Division I teams the previous two seasons. They are 1-11 this season — they upset Tulane a week ago — and 6-66 […]

Warrior Beat: “Next!”

By Stephen Tsai on December 26, 2018

Don’t touch the panic button. C’mon, I know you think it’s calling you, like a freshly painted park bench. But step away. Here’s why: > Anxiety: John Ursua is leaving. > Reason for calm: Scout Bowls … team sessions … it doesn’t matter. In competitive situations, Kumoku Noa makes big plays. Lots of big plays. Fast cleats, soft hands, deceptive toughness. Noa can play inside and outside. He redshirted this season to take care of business. He’s ready for a […]
