Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

University of Hawaii incoming sophomore Austin Matautia came off the bench for eight points and all four Rainbow Warriors on the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team contributed to Saturday’s victory over Morocco in the FIVB U21 World Championship volleyball match in Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic. U.S. men fall in 5 in World League to Russia

Tough loss The U.S. Men’s National Team couldn’t quite control Russia and fell, 31-29, 17-25, 25-19, 27-29, 15-13 in an FIVB World League match in Lodz, Poland. The loss drops the U.S. to 3-5 while Russia improved to 4-4. The Americans finish out pool play today against host Poland (4-4). Libero Erik Shoji (Punahou) had eight digs.
