Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

The U.S. men’s national volleyball team, with three starters with Hawaii ties in the lineup, remained undefeated in FIVB Volleyball Nations League play on Saturday with a sweep of Korea in Goiania, Brazil. Forgot to post this Sunday night Former University of Hawaii All-American middle blocker Taylor Averill scored eight points in his first start to help the U.S. Men’s National Team sweep host China 25-20, 26-24, 25-18 in a Volleyball Nations League match Sunday in Ningbo. The U.S. men’s national volleyball team, with three former Hawaii prep products on the roster, will be on Oahu July 23-28. On the team are three players from the 2016 Olympic team that took the bronze medal: Micah Christenson (Kamehameha), Erik Shoji (Punahou) and Kawika Shoji (‘Iolani).
