Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

Wahine Tuesday practice, scrimmage update

Good morning from the arena. Practice not as early as last week since summer school is out. They are going 8-11 a.m. first session as opposed to 6-9 a.m. Manoa Move-In today also for the dorms. Afternoon practice today also moved from 3-6 to 5-8 due to a meeting after lunch. 3-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday’s scrimmage 3-5 p.m. (Open and free to public.) People have asked how practice is going. Seniors are pictured in front row. We are also shooting for our preview magazine. As mentioned in previous link it is Burns’ 21st birthday. Thanks mom for letting us know. Team had a fun team-building Saturday on the West side. Closed practice and delivering season tickets to several houses out that way. Food and beach time! Had Sunday off. Wahine practice Day 3; Green-White scrimmage next Friday

Only one practice today as summer school concludes and they have to move out of the dorms. Wahine out on the west side Saturday for a practice and community service. The Green-White scrimmage is next Friday, Admissions Day holiday. 3-5 p.m., may be open to public. Will let you know. Don’t have complete details yet but next week’s Green-White Scrimmage will be open to the public. Believe it is next Friday, which is a state holiday. Two practices 6-9 and 3-6. Pretty standard skills and drills, some with entire team, some broken down by position. Two players still haven’t passed test. Not mentioning who due to HIPA. Wahine open practice, unranked for first time in preseason poll

Practice scheduled to start at 6 a.m. They started warming up at 5:48. New strength coach is former baseball player Steven Ventimilia. Only Sophia Howling not cleared to practice. Team spent about 20 minutes warming up in the arena then went out to run on the track. Fun music. First song: I’m So Excited. The AVCA poll is out. Think UH’s run being ranked in preaseason poll may be over today.

Wahine picked No. 2 in BWC preseason poll

Not much of a surprise … other than UH getting four first-place votes out of the nine. Hawaii was picked second behind defending champion Cal Poly. U.S. men in town

Team got in Sunday. Closed practices today, Tuesday and Wednesday at Punahou. Open practice Thursday 9 a.m. at ʻIolani. Scrimmages 7 p.m. Friday at Kamehameha and Saturday 6 p.m. at Kalani. $10 at door Tuilera will be with volleyball instead of with Warrior football this week. I am on mainland so will check in sporadically Aloha for now

Maglio helps Canada to bronze; Volleyball clinic with 3 Olympians Monday

Former Hawaii All-American middle Emily Maglio had five kills to help Canada defeat Brazil today for the bronze medal at the NORCECA Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Maglio added an ace and a block in the 25-19, 25-20, 25-21 match that lasted 83 minutes at Palacio de Voleibol Ricardo Arias.
