Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

Rise of the Wahine tonight, MVB & SVB news

The “Rise of the Wahine” premiere event takes place today (Wednesday) at the Hawaii Theater. Doors and the red carpet for selected guests begins at 5:30 p.m. with the event starting at 6:30 p.m. Immediately following the film, filmmakers Dean Kaneshiro and Ryan Kalei Tsuji along with former UH Wahine volleyball coach Dave Shoji and the first Wahine volleyball team captain Beth McLaughlin will participate in a panel discussion. UC Riverside senior hitter Kaiulani Ahuna (Kamehameha-Hawaii) was named the AVCA national player of the week today (Tuesday) as the Highlanders went 2-1 last week at their own tournament. Improving weather conditions has led to another revision of Hawaii’s volleyball schedule this weekend, athletic department officials announced today.
