Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

NCAA semis: Stanford sweeps BYU; Nebraska 3, Illinois 2

Top-ranked Stanford advanced to the NCAA women’s volleyball championship match for the 16th time following a 25-15, 25-15, 25-18 sweep of Brigham Young on Thursday in Minneapolis. The Cardinal (33-1) will face either Nebraska or Illinois in Saturday’s final. Illini were up 2-0, Nebraska has come back to win Sets 3 and 4, including a 7-2 run in Set 4 to win 25-20. On to Set 5.
