Cindy Luis covers University of Hawaii volleyball for the Star-Advertiser. She began her career as a sports journalist in Hawaii in 1981 with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was the sports editor, assistant sports editor, columnist and beat writer during a 31-year span before the paper became the Star-Advertiser. She graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

U.S. rallies for 22-25, 21025 25-19, 25-19, 15-13 win for the bronze. Team apparently had to walk several blocks in the pouring rain to get to the arena after their bus didn’t have the right credentials to get past security Priddy off the bench started off 15 of 20, finished with 18 points.

USA women vs. Netherlands; Wahine scrimmage

Good win for the U.S. Karch was very happy to end the Olympics on a win. 25-23, 25-27, 25-22, 25-19 Second bronze. Other came in 1992. The team won Olympic silver medals in 1984, 2008 and 2012. The U.S. finishes the tournament with a 7-1 record. Scrimmage later this afternoon. Thought Castillo might play, she said her elbow was better but she now has it taped and isn’t warming up.

Taking ‘Dig Pink’ to another level. On Thursday, Berg had team do a digging drill wearing sox on their hands. since they were in humid Gym 1, it helped with not leaving sweaty skid marks. Interesting start to Friday practice. Supposed to be in the arena but the lights are on a timer so they started warmups in Gym 1. Moved to the arena with the lights coming on at 7:30. Thurs: USA vs. Serbia, Mitchem

First the good news. Forgot to mention yesterday that Mitchem’s surgery went well. She was in a little pain, rested yesterday. As mentioned on previous thread, U.S. loses to Serbia in 5. Thought it was pretty well set up for their first gold. They’ll play loser of China-Netherlands for gold on Saturday. Men play Italy Friday in one semifinal, the other has Brazil vs. Russian Federation.

U.S. sweeps Poland. Key was Set 2, came back from being down 5 Christenson setting very well. U.S. won Set 2 on a challenge, Pole netted before ball went down. 25-23, 25-22, 25-20

Practice started a little later, at 10 a.m. Only one practice today, pretty normal for the first week. They have Sunday off. Think there’s some team activities involved, may include the beach. Mitchem has begun her bone-healing protocol, diet includes antioxidants like blueberries and no antiinflamatories. as mentioned on previous thread. I would not consider Mitchem injury prone. she has had two injuries in her playing career, last year’s pinke and this year’s pinkie. it was just another freak accident. […]
