Some stunning news infiltrated the Hawaii basketball community on Monday, as former Rainbow Warriors guard Jaaron Stallworth was reported dead. The Hawaii basketball Twitter page sent out condolences for the Stallworth family “during this difficult time.” Stallworth, who transferred to Hawaii out of Yuba College for the 2017-18 season, was to compete at point guard. But he was coming off a broken leg injury playing for Yuba and was behind the curve, considerably, upon arrival at UH as he competed […]

Garrett Jackson, who served as a graduate manager for the Rainbow Warriors this season, has been selected for an internship with the San Antonio Spurs’ video department. Jackson had multiple roles for the ‘Bows, including video analysis, scouting, recruiting, practice preparation, player development and nutrition coordinator. UH coach Eran Ganot was an assistant at Saint Mary’s when Jackson was a forward for the Gaels. Jackson’s departure was announced at the UH banquet yesterday. It also was revealed Jack Purchase, who […]
Two days away from signing day for basketball prospects, the Rainbow Warriors secured a commitment from a junior-college guard. Junior Madut is a 6-foot-5, 185-pound sophomore from Eastern Florida State College. He was the captain for a team that went 28-8 this past season. He averaged 9.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists while defending several spots. Madut was born in Sudan, grew up in Australia, and attended the DME Academy, a prep school in Florida, before joining EFSC. Madut’s […]
Things are getting busier and busier on the Manoa campus. Yesterday marked the Warriors’ first “Middle School Day.” While most schools have “Junior Days” for high school students wishing to learn more about their institutions (and football programs, of course), UH had an open house for middle school students. The emphasis is that no matter your future aspirations, every class in high school counts. Too often when students are considering college, they are hindered by poor grades as freshmen or […]
Former Hawaii basketball guard Leland Green has found his greener land of opportunity. Green, a reserve who played an average of 8.7 minutes in 27 games in 2018-19, will play at Division II Humboldt State for his senior season. Because he is dropping down a division, he does not have to sit out a season. Green was a courteous, quiet sort who wowed upon his arrival from Los Angeles with a better-than-expected jump shot and a ready-made physique. He enjoyed […]
Reserve guards Leland Green and Brandon Thomas are leaving the UH basketball team. Both players requested — and received — releases from their scholarships, then entered the NCAA portal, a list of available transfer players that is circulated to all NCAA programs. Green played in 57 games, starting 36, in his first two UH seasons. But he underwent shoulder surgery at the end of the 2017-2018 season. This recently completed season, he averaged 8.3 minutes and 2.6 points in 27 […]
Kick back, relax and take in one of the best sports days of the year today. Heck, do it again tomorrow, and through the rest of March as the madness unfolds. When you do, consider this: It’s already been three years since the Hawaii men’s basketball team enjoyed its finest hour on the national stage, upsetting No. 4 seed California in the NCAA Tournament first round in Spokane, Wash. Roderick Bobbitt, Stefan Jankovic and Aaron Valdes, and a host of […]
