Hawaii men’s basketball: Bernardo da Silva ahead of schedule, needed against Washington in Diamond Head Classic

By Dave Reardon on December 23, 2019

Projects almost always take way longer to develop than promised in Hawaii. Maybe if we’re lucky that rail thing will be done 75 years from now, in time for our yet-to-be-born children to ride when they get too old to drive. But University of Hawaii freshman forward Bernardo da Silva showed he is way ahead of schedule Sunday. While he also showed he is far from being a finished product, UH’s electrifying 67-63 comeback victory over UTEP in the first-round […]

Hawaii men’s basketball: Eddie Stansberry takes torrid scoring into Diamond Head Classic

By Brian McInnis on December 22, 2019

Eddie would shoot. And, more importantly for the Hawaii mens basketball team, Eddie would score. Heading into the start of the 2019 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic today, host Hawaii is one of seven teams in the eight-team field with a winning record, at 7-3. Eddie Stansberry, a senior shooting guard with the Rainbow Warriors, has a lot to do with that. His seven 20-point games, among 10 played, have hiked his overall scoring average to 19.7 — which represents the […]

Rainbow Forecast: men’s basketball opens Diamond Head Classic, women’s hoops takes third road trip

By Brian McInnis on December 16, 2019

It’s final exam week on the Manoa campus, which means an exceptionally light workload in this week’s Forecast. In fact, there’s only a single men’s basketball game (at home) and a single women’s basketball game (on the road) to account for at the tail end of the week. However, in the case of the Rainbow Warriors, that’s the start of the always exciting Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. Why so light a schedule? Well, the Hawaii football team doesn’t play […]

Hawaii basketball: Rainbow Warriors and Wahine both fill the buckets in wins Sunday

By Dave Reardon on December 16, 2019

If you had to pick a genre for that Sunday double feature matinee at the Stan Sheriff Center it would definitely not be drama. There was little of that as the University of Hawaii women (6-5) took the hope away from Hope International with a 16-0 run leading to a 86-49 final score and then the UH men (7-3) never trailed in blowing out Samford 94-73. It was the most points and widest margin of victory for both Hawaii teams […]

The ‘Bows are now 7-3. * * * * * * The ‘Bows have scored seven in a row — and 13 of the last 15 — to widen their lead to 72-45. Freshman Justin Webster […]

Hawaii men’s basketball: Eran Ganot provides health update

By Brian McInnis on December 12, 2019

Hawaii men’s basketball head coach Eran Ganot hinted Thursday at an imminent return to the sideline in an update posted on social media. Ganot, who suddenly stepped away from the program on Nov. 6 — two days before the 2019-20 season opener — for unspecified medical reasons, posted the following on Facebook and Twitter. He did not include a date of his return beyond saying it would be “soon”: “A special Mahalo for the incredible outpouring of support during this […]
