Hawaii men’s basketball: Rainbow Warriors roll Maine in Eran Ganot’s return

By Brian McInnis on December 29, 2019

It was high drama in the Stan Sheriff Center in Eran Ganot’s return to the sidelines. Would Hawaii — which turned Sunday night’s contest against Maine into a blowout early in the second half — achieve one of the most lopsided victories in program history? In fact, they would, as the 40-point margin of the 91-51 win tied for seventh all-time in the record books. It was the most emphatic win over a Division I program since an 85-41 win over Oregon […]

Ganot will be on the sidelines for Sunday’s 5 p.m. matchup against Maine (3-9), the nonconference finale for UH (8-5). UPDATE: Here’s a couple of […]

Hawaii men’s basketball: Rainbow Warriors learn that not all zone defenses are a shooter’s delight

By Dave Reardon on December 23, 2019

Usually, just at the thought of going up against a zone defense an outside shooter’s eyes light up like, well, like a kid’s in anticipation of opening Christmas gifts. But there’s the passive zone defense lazy, fat and/or old guys play at the park or the Y, and then there’s the Syracuse 2-3, made famous by coach Jim Boeheim. That scheme is now used at Washington by head coach Mike Hopkins, a former Syracuse shooting guard and assistant for more […]

Rainbow Forecast: Hawaii Bowl and Diamond Head Classic week for football, men’s basketball

By Brian McInnis on December 23, 2019

It’s Christmas week, which means it’s Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic and SoFi Hawaii Bowl week for all you diehards (and us media types). Be sure to get the right balance of family, gifts and egg nog between the non-stop action at the Stan Sheriff Center and Aloha Stadium. For UH football, it’s a chance at a rare 10-win season, something last accomplished in 2010. The Rainbow Warriors last won the Hawaii Bowl in 2016, a 52-35 win over Middle […]
