A scheduling anomaly had the University of Hawaii women’s basketball team playing at 8 p.m. on Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center, after the men played at 5:30 p.m. The men routed Howard 94-59 in front of a crowd announced at 4,288, which was invited to stay at no additional cost to watch the Wahine game. Around 2,500 or so remained for the tip-off against Penn, and this was a chance for the Wahine to increase their fan base. […]

Maybe the craziest thing about Christian McCaffrey’s 368-yard all-purpose yardage performance as Stanford beat Iowa 45-16 in the Rose Bowl today was that it wasn’t even his best game. The Stanford sophomore piled up 461 yards to lead the Cardinal over USC 41-22 in the Pac-12 championship game on Dec. 5. It could have been worse, but today’s announcement of sanctions by the NCAA against the University of Hawaii men’s basketball program is definitely not a good thing. Kenyans ruled the day at the Honolulu Marathon today, winning both the men’s and women’s races with personal-best times. Felix Kiprotich of Kenya won the men’s race with a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes and 43 seconds. Kipchirchir broke away from a pack of six men out front late in the 26.2-mile race.
