Old rivals meet on the field of battle on Tuesday afternoon at Aloha Stadium. Hawaii and BYU met first as respected adversaries at the SoFi Hawaii Bowl press conference on a picturesque Monday morning at the lawn of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. It’s Christmas week, which means it’s Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic and SoFi Hawaii Bowl week for all you diehards (and us media types). Assistant coaches Craig Stutzmann (quarterbacks) and Andre Allen (wide receivers) of Hawaii have been named FootballScoop Coach of the Year finalists. Stutzmann is on a list of six finalists that also includes Steve Ensminger (LSU), Graham Harrell (USC), Jeff Lebby (UCF), Phil Longo (Noth Carolina) and Mike Yurcich (Ohio State). Hawaii football: Running back Dae Dae Hunter commits

The top running back from one of the nation’s top high school football teams has accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Hawaii. Daveon “Dae Dae” Hunter of Chandler (Ariz.) High said he will sign his national letter of intent Wednesday morning, the first day football prospects may put their binding commitments in writing. Hawaii will stay home to play BYU in the Hawaii Bowl

As expected, the Hawaii football team will stay home for the holidays and face BYU in the SoFi Hawaii Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 24, at Aloha Stadium. The official announcement came earlier this morning. Hawaii (9-5) will play a 15th game this season after losing to Boise State, 31-10, in the Mountain West Conference championship game on Saturday in Idaho.
