The Hawaii women’s basketball team finally learned the identity of its Big West tournament semifinal opponent. Second-seeded UH will meet third-seeded UC Riverside at 11:30 a.m. (HST) Friday at the Honda Center. The massive college admissions bribery scheme that shook the nation on Tuesday was not limited to the continental United States. Tuesday morning, Jovan Vavic, the legendary coach of USC water polo, was arrested by the FBI in Waikiki and charged with conspiracy to commit racketeering as part of the widespread case dubbed “Operation Varsity Blues.” He was one of several coaches, and about 50 people total arrested nationwide. It is a credit to the Hawaii men’s and women’s basketball teams that they have done what they’ve done in their respective 2019 conference seasons without possessing a singularly dominant player. Fourth place in the Big West for the Rainbow Warriors with a 9-7 record (18-12 overall). Second place for the Rainbow Wahine at 10-6 (14-15 overall).
