Hawaii softball: UH splits doubleheader with Davis, NCAA berth out of reach

By Brian McInnis on May 10, 2019

It was going to take a lot for the Hawaii softball team to pick up an NCAA tournament berth at the conclusion of this week. For starters, the Rainbow Wahine needed to sweep Thursday’s doubleheader against UC Davis to keep hope of an outright Big West regular-season title alive into Friday’s senior night. Sweeping Davis in three games and having Cal State Fullerton lose out at UC Riverside in three games Friday and Saturday was the only combination that would […]

Hawaii softball: 7 seniors look to make final week count

By Brian McInnis on May 7, 2019

Despite taking its final road series by a count of two games to one, the road to a Big West championship got considerably tougher for the Hawaii softball team. Heading into its final series of the season, at home against UC Davis this week, UH (32-14, 13-5 Big West) trails first-place Cal State Fullerton (35-16, 15-3) by two games with three to play. It actually amounts to a 2.5-game lead for the Titans, who swept UH in a series at […]

But he was coming off a broken leg injury playing for Yuba and was behind the curve, considerably, upon arrival at UH as he competed […]

Hawaii water polo: Rainbow Wahine redeem Big West championship weekend

By Brian McInnis on April 28, 2019

It was shaping up to be a tough weekend for University of Hawaii sports in Big West Conference championship events. The beach volleyball team lost twice to Cal Poly on Saturday, ending a three-year run in the sand as tournament champs (although it then received an NCAA at-large bid). The UH women’s tennis team positioned itself to repeat as the league champion in Indian Wells, Calif., Sunday morning, only to fall in heart-rending fashion to Long Beach State, 4-3, when […]
