GO BASE BOWS !!!
Let’s go Bows!!
With Dylan Thomas as the closer, you don’t have to worry about a six-run inning in the last frame. They went nine, so in a sense, it was a competitive game. It’s not like losing 100-47 in Alaska.
I think Logan Pouelsen should either pitch, or be a position player.
In Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology, Belmont has a chance to make the tournament as an at-large team, even though they play in the Ohio Valley. Today they play Tennessee Tech. That is akin to playing a Big West opponent. They are in the “First Four Out” group, because they played a decent non-conference schedule.
Conference RPI: Ohio Valley #20; Big West #24.
Hawaii softball is 6-1 and their best pitcher has an ERA of 6.
This could be the year. They’re hitting better. They have three pitchers. And they can rally from late inning deficits. Just need to raise their fielding percentage. .963.
Seattle is too good for Hawaii. But Hawaii tried.
3-1 is an excellent road trip. 7-2 coming home.
Brittany Hitchcock reestablished herself as the ace. Izzy Dino reestablished herself as the number two pitcher. And that is how it should be if Hawaii wants to contend, let alone, win, the Big West. Your top returning player is supposed to be your best performing player.
This is why the women’s basketball team doesn’t have a better record. I think Julissa Tago has the most upside out of everybody on the roster. Drives me nuts when she has 1-6 nights from the field.
Base Bows not looking to good the first 2 games of the season. Hopefully they can salvage a split series and not get swept.
Cappie, where’s Dylan Thomas? Oh that’s right, the head coach made a very poor decision last week.
burro sabio: Geez. What a morbid beginning. I hope it rains out tomorrow. Just start from scratch next week. When Billy V. announced the women’s basketball score(to tepid applause) and not the score to the back half of the twin bill, I knew they had lost. The point of scheduling Portland, and not an Oregon, is to not start the season 0-4. Coddling pitchers, historically does not work. Stephen Strasberg keeps getting hurt.
And, hello, people in charge of music. You do not play “Born in the USA” to celebrate veterans. The song, I repeat, is not a patriotic song; it is an ANTI-WAR song. It’s been out for 30 years now. People should know this by now. But it’s not an entirely unpatriotic one either. There is a love for country, but it’s not an unconditional love. The character he portrays in the song has questions, but in the end, he decides that there is no better place in the world to live in.
Logan Pouelsen will either be a great position player who can hit, or a very good pitcher, but making him do both is messing him up. He is batting .111 and has an ERA of 16.20. And he seems like a great person. He is the first one out of the dugout when somebody hits a home run. So make the hard decision and do what’s best for the player.
The 1st baseball game began at 1:05 pm and lasted 2 hrs 50 minutes. The 2nd baseball game of the DH started around 4 and the lasted 3 hrs 45 minutes. The basketball game started around 8 pm. and ended maybe 10:30 pm . Stephen had to cover both sports. When does he rest and eat dinner ?
I guess during the games. The boss seems not to know about work distribution. And he has to cover today’s baseball game at 1:05 pm. i assume.
Fogel and Baeza have 2 hits each for 12 and 10 at-bats, so far. All HR’s.
If this was a “feel it out” series for Trapasso to gather data so to move forward with the season then I’ll accept it. Gotta adjust the pitching rotation and roles. Seemed random. Pitching looked so solid on paper. Such a waste. Its still early though.
Offensively the make-up seems promising. Some energy guys, some loose guys, some power (lots of hair on this team) and some grit. Nobody clutch (yet) though. And shutout one game (ugh)
I hope this is the right direction. The Baseball team has to make money. Elephants? I think we need a zookeeper.
any more D1 players “lurking” and wanting to transfer to UH?
has UH used all its football scholarships? if no, Rolo will use to give deserving player not on scholarship?
any player UH ‘tracking’ for 2019 and offers for 2020?
“tah ran” can be bliss — no worries — be happy — GIV’UM, GIV’UM cauz U got’tom to geev!
can’t remember when we have been this cold for this long — cloudy, drizzle, still chilly in our valley — upper atmosphere convergence which is most unusual for Hawaii — very common on the mainland when warm air meets an “artic” blast from up north — wind chill of -65 degrees!!!
When to yesterday’s game&again was frustrated by another Trap’s handling of pitchers! It was only the 4rth game of preseason&why did he leave Li’i in for 5 innings? Sure Li’i wasn’t doing badly but isn’t this the time to findout who may be a closer besides Dylan! Why not bring in another pitcher in the 9th to audition as a possible closer come conference play?
I am not happy to see players get injured&cant play! But sometimes some good things can comeout of theses negatives. Tyler is is out for about 6weeks. Watching him catch hasn’t impressed me! He doesn’t have quick feet&an arm! Dallas may not be as big but he has quick feet&an arm! Saw him stop a pitch&fired to 3rd to get the runner. Dustin is out for season. To me he hasn’t lived up to Trap’s hype of being a great player! I twitch everytime a ball is hit to him(is he going to make the play or not)! Saw Daylen make 2 great plays while playing 2nd!At this point our infield looks solid defensively with Ethan/Maaki/Daylen/Alex/Dallas!
I agree with #10 about Logan! Cant see why Trap brought him in to relief when he was the DH!! He has to go from the dugout to bullpen to warmup! We know that each person needs different # of pitches to warmup! Plus this was the first game&why is he leaving Jeremy to pitch the 6th? Yes you want to win but you also want to know whom you can count on during conference play!! Thanks for reading my comments-had to vent because this seems to be Trap’s MO when it comes the pitching staff! And this leads to many of the tired arms and/or arm injures during the latter part of the season!! Have a safe week!!
In the 1st game of the series, he should have taken Turchin out after he pitched in the 8th and 9th innings or after a few batters in the 10th and not leave him to get “torched” for 6 runs. Turchin did good in the 8th and 9th.
Hope the hitting gets better, so far the team average is .212 The new associate coach is supposed to be a good hitting coach.
I was wondering if Portland State is ranked in the top 25 in the country. I mean they just pummeled UH. What’s up with that!! Looks like another 50-50 year of mediocrity.
Logan Pouelsen looks out of shape. Erratic last year and still looks the same this year. Wahine hoops looks better with quicker looking lineup. Old lineup looked too slow and couldn’t shoot
University of Portland is different from Portland State
This is how I would juggle this staff if I had my choice. Judging by this Portland series and last years stats/data.
Demiero gm 1 starter. Senior. Good control. Able to utilize UH’s good defense.
Smith gm 2 starter. Prototypical starter. Ready to step up.
Koltermann gm 3 starter. Steady.
Pouelsen gm 4 starter. May not be ready for “hold” situations yet. Can benefit from preparation before start.
Wu-Yelland tight game long relief/set up. Good two inning hard thrower.
Davenport. long relief tight game or clean up/spot starter
Pontes. long relief/clean up.
Ashworth. set up/long or short save.
Thomas (when he comes back) one inning fireman. Save or win only.
Bellina. short relief
Turchin long relief/spot starter
Halemanu. Utility. Grooming for future rotation piece.
Yelland gave up 0 runs in 5 innings and Davenport 1 run. They ran into trouble in the 6th.
Don’t know who is protecting the less than mediocre baseball coach. I gave up my season tickets along with 5 other friends because we were sick of watching our team lose because of stupid coaching. Poor kids. I don’t even watch them on t.v. as I feel sorry. The lack of strategies to win and than to blame the kids for not hitting or bad pitching. Don’t think he won once in 18 years. We’ll lose the next series too I guess.
Good luck boys!! You’ll need it.
