Hawaii baseball: 53-game schedule includes national champ Vanderbilt
The Hawaii baseball team announced an ambitious 2020 schedule that features a road series against defending championship Vanderbilt.
The Rainbow Warriors will play 53 games, including a three-weekend stretch in which Pac-12 opponents Washington State and Oregon will bookend the road trip against Vanderbilt.
The ‘Bows also will embark on a eight-game, 14-day road trip in April. That trip will include nonconference games against Cal State Bakersfield, which joins the Big West the following season, and Pepperdine.
The ‘Bows play eight three-game series against Big West teams.
The ‘Bows were 20-30 overall and 8-16 in the Big West last season. But two ailing sluggers — outfielder Adam Fogel and infielder Dustin Demeter — are expected to ready for the Feb. 7 opener against UH Hilo. The ‘Bows return all their full-time starting pitchers. They also added 15 players.
The ‘Bows are meeting an alumni team today at Les Murakami Stadium. Fall training camp ends next weekend.
Record: 11-6 overall, 0-0 Big West

GO WARRIORS !!!
BEAT UP them FREZZ NO BOO DOGS !!!
Ummm … yeah … football gameday and today’s post is about the baseball schedule? I know the live blog is getting posted later, but wassup with the lack of hype this year?
Wow…this schedule is such an interesting batch for the baseball team. What’s strange is that we play Wazzou, which didn’t at all have a good record last year, where they finished 11-42-1. In fact, the last time we faced the cougars was in 2005. We split 2-2 in that series, and to boot, we have a transfer from there, Trevor Ichimura.
Oregon had a mediocre record at 27-29, and somehow we always have had a hard time facing them in recent years.
Towson didn’t have a good record with 14-39.
NDSU does have an okay record, but doesn’t seem like a team that has played much with a 19-24 record. I think most of it has resulted in inclement weather over there.
Chicago State has had an even terrible record at 10-41. Only positive out of it was winning a series against Utah Valley on the road.
But yeah, the Vanderbilt series should be interesting to greenlight for the 2020 season. Hawaii has never faced Vanderbilt since 1981. Been over 30 years, but despite us leading the series 18-2, I have the worse feeling Vandy might be a bit more difficult to beat than what they looked like back in the old days.
Otherwise, this schedule should be a bit challenging, especially because of some of the tough teams in the west. It could be an interesting season for sure, especially because we do have Demeter and Fogel returning back from injuries. Now it’s a matter of time to see if they can stay healthy.
