Packer rejoins Warriors

By Stephen Tsai on July 30, 2017

Of all the Packers — Billy Packer, Aaron Rodgers, Trevor Davis — one of our favorites is Damien Packer. We first met him during unsupervised football workouts several years ago. I think it was Ne’Quan Phillips who said Packer was going to be a special player. Back then, Packer was a walk-on from the Big Island whose family endured hurricane flybys. He also admittedly lived on tuna. He worked hard, earned a scholarship and eventually a starting job at safety. […]

By Stephen Tsai on July 29, 2017

The Warriors completed the first week of training camp with this morning’s third practice. The Warriors worked on timing, experimented with lineup pairings, and fulfilled the NCAA’s easing-in requirements. They get to put on the full pads next week. > It’s clear, for now, that Dru Brown, Cole McDonald and Cole Brownholtz will be getting all the quarterback reps. In most drills, Brown gets two four-play reps to one four-play rep each for McDonald and Brownholtz. > Here’s the give-and-take […]

Two down …

By Stephen Tsai on July 28, 2017

The Warriors’ second practice of training camp was as efficient as the first. The Warriors were able to mix group instruction with 7-on-7 and team sessions. > The two Coles — Cole McDonald and Cole Brownholtz — split the No. 2 reps behind starter Dru Brown. > Newcomers Brandon Kipper, Micah Vanterpool and Emil Graves earned significant reps in the team drills. By Stephen Tsai on July 26, 2017

LAS VEGAS — It’s the second day — wait, second or third? — oh, anyway, we’re back again at the Cosmo for another round of the Mountain West Media Summit. Everyone is still abuzz about Rolo bringing “Elvis” to yesterday’s session. The publicity was well worth the $700 Rolo paid for Elvis’ two hours of time. Today’s buzz is Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen, who is considered one of the top 2018 draft prospects. Three QBs — Allen, Boise State’s Brett […]

’92 Rainbow Warriors join the Circle

By Stephen Tsai on July 24, 2017

Bob Marley, Tupac, Queen, Jimi Hendrix never won a Grammy. Tom Cruise, Will Smith and Harrison Ford never won an Oscar. And it would be a surprise to many that the 1992 Rainbow Warriors had not been inducted into the UH Circle of Honor. That changed with today’s announcement that the 1992 Holiday Bowl champs were among five inductees into this year’s class. Dave Shoji, Don and Marion Murphy, K. Mark Takai and Marilyn Moniz-Kaho‘ohanohano also will be celebrated in […]
