Let’s make a deal

By Stephen Tsai on December 1, 2017

The Warriors are six days removed from the end of a 3-9 season, their seventh non-winning year in a row. And that means David Matlin should do one thing. Matlin needs to take Nick Rolovich’s contract, which runs through 2020 and pays $425,000 next season, and rip it to shreds. Then Matlin needs to give Rolovich a new five-year deal at, say, $500,000 per year. Wait. What? A new deal will: > Help recruiting: If a recruit commits now, he […]

They went 6-4 the rest of the season but missed qualifying for the six-team playoffs. In a related note, Toronto defeated […]

Game Day: BYU

By Stephen Tsai on November 25, 2017

It’s not just game day. It’s BYU-Hawaii game day. It doesn’t matter if both are three-win teams. It doesn’t matter if this is your parents’ rivalry. There’s something about a good ol’ BYU-UH game that leaves people emotional. (It’s 1996. We had some friends who were BYU fans who had never gone to a BYU football game. I get them two tickets. Afterward, I asked Jared how he liked the game. He smiled, sort of, and said it was great […]

Henderson invited to Senior Bowl

By Stephen Tsai on November 24, 2017

The invitations are in the mailbox. A few days after left tackle Dejon Allen was invited to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, safety Trayvon Henderson received an invitation from the Senior Bowl. The NFL-administered Senior Bowl is significant in a player’s path to the league. The NFL assigns coaching staffs — active ones — to lead the North and South teams. The prelims, in which players are tested and interviewed, are maybe more important than the game itself. Allen […]
