Today’s UH-Long Beach State is the final sporting event on the Manoa campus this athletic year. It also will be the final home game for 12 baseball seniors — a 13th, Colin Ashworth, is expected to return on a medical exemption. Today’s senior celebration comes with a bonus. Manziel joins June Jones in CFL

Quarterback Johnny Manziel is joining the Hamilton cast. Manziel today signed a contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. Manziel, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner, is the fifth QB on the June Jones-coached team. The other passers are Bryant Moniz,a former UH quarterback; Jeremiah Masoli, a Saint Louis School alumnus; Vernon Adams, and Dane Evans. Lelie earns MBA … final hurrah for baseball seniors

Belated congratulations to Ashley Lelie, who earned an MBA last weekend. Lelie is a Radford High graduate who joined the Warriors as a walk-on receiver. He entered the NFL draft following his junior year, was the 19th pick overall, and then enjoyed a pro career while earning a bachelor’s degree. Aloha4Puna

One of the good guys — former UH cornerback Kenny Patton — is putting on the Aloha4Puna Speed Clinic this Sunday at Radford High’s gym. The speed and agility clinic is open to boys and girls ages 6-12. The clinic is from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Participation fee is $30, but all the money will be used to purchase food for the Puna community affected by the volcanic activity. Former Warrior: ‘I want to give back’

Former Warrior Damien Packer still loves but football, but he loves the Big Island even more. “I want to give back,” said Packer, who has been accepted into the Teach For America program. Packer will participate in a training program next month in Oklahoma, then teach in a school there the rest of the summer. Two former Warriors who played professional football — Kealoha Pilares and John Estes — proved there is no time limit on education. On Saturday afternoon, Pilares earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Recreation Science (KRS) and Estes received a master’s in public administration. Pilares intends to pursue a career in prehab training, a method of building strength and stability to increase agility and decrease injury risks.
