Relax

By Stephen Tsai on November 29, 2013

Sure, there were fist bumps and other such unsightly celebrations for middle-aged folks when a get-tough plan was announced to the UH Board of Regents. It went something like this: Meet the budget (or, at least come close by $1 million) or else programs will be cut. In three years. As an old fart who has witnessed we-really-mean-it threats for decades, the response should be: Hah. That tactic might have worked at Saint Mary’s when it dropped football (coincidentally, UH […]

Turkey Bowl

By Stephen Tsai on November 28, 2013

The Rainbow Warriors’ final full practice of 2013 concludes with today’s Turkey Bowl featuring redshirts and under-used players. Because of Army’s aggressive blocking, the Warriors will be in full pads today, a rare style for what is usually a lighter Thursday practice. * * * * * Tight end Jordan Pu‘u-Robinson’s injury filled year has come to an end. He has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus. Joining him on the sideline will be Moses Samia, Ben Dew and Keith […]

By Stephen Tsai on November 27, 2013

Congrats to the newest mom — Princess Leila. * * * * * In the past couple of weeks the Rainbow Warriors have secured commitments from two East Coast players —cornerback Nick Nelson of Suitland High (District Heights, Md.) and strong safety Aaron Glover of Princess Anne High (Virginia Beach) — and they might not be done in that region. Daronte’ Jones, who coaches the defensive secondary, has been the point recruiter in the D.C. area and, depending on the […]

Wilson stars in scrimmage

Willis Wilson had nine carries for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Wilson also broke tackles with spinning moves he described as “The Cecil” — in tribute to teammate Cecil Doe. Here’s the play-by-play: • 1-10 O 40 — Jason Muraoka rush for 6 • 2-4 O 46 — Ikaika Woolsey complete […]

By Stephen Tsai on November 25, 2013

It took a little bit, but I can feel my toes and fingers again, so let’s re-open the blog. And we begin with a contest: Two tickets to Sunday’s Na Koa football banquet. To enter, please post: Aloha, Rainbow Warrior seniors You may enter multiple times, but you can’t pledge your winnings to someone else, such as: “If I win, please give my tickets to Kate Upton …” OK, you actually can give your tickets to Kate Upton, if she […]

Forecast calls for brrrr

By Stephen Tsai on November 22, 2013

Laramie — We’re told the range is between 12 and 32. That’s Fahrenheit, not the age range for video-game users. The Rainbow Warriors arrive this afternoon, then will have a quick walk-through before heading to Cheyenne for the night.
