The financial future of the UH athletic department will be impacted in the coming weeks following last week’s official departures of ‘Ahahui Koa Anuenue leaders Vince Baldemor and Carol Gouveia. Baldemor, who served as president of the athletic department’s fund-raising organization, completed his UH stint last week. GA opening

There will be a graduate-assistant opening with Jared Vanderbeek’s expected departure. Vanderbeek completed his second year as a GA for defense. He helped prepare the scout offense that faced the UH defense in practices. Vanderbeek has pursued full-time coaching positions on the mainland.

Training days

Football players with college or pro aspirations won’t have to travel very far to train. Former NFL players Chris Kemoeatu and Ma‘ake Kemoeatu will be opening a 6,000-square-foot training facility next week in a complex near Windward Mall. Anthony Piroli, who has trained several Pittsburgh Steelers, will be the facility’s conditioning coordinator. There will be programs designed for youths through pro players. JC rush-end to sign with UH

Luke Shawley, a rush end from San Diego Mesa College, will sign a letter of intent with the Rainbow Warriors today and begin attending UH classes in January. Today is the first day mid-year transfers may sign national letters of intent. Shawley, who is 6 feet 3 and 255 pounds, is capable of running 40 yards in 4.58 seconds, bench-presssing 400 pounds and squat-lifting 600 pounds. Unga: LB picks UH

Linebacker Tui Unga, a linebacker from Etiwanda, Calif., has made an oral commitment to play for the Rainbow Warriors in 2014. Unga is a 2012 graduate of Rancho Cucamonga and a former Fresno State recruit. He is 6 feet 3 and about 220 pounds. Unga’s older brother is J.J. Unga, an offensive tackle with the Baltimore Ravens. His cousin is Reno Mahe, a former BYU running back who played with the Philadelphia Eagles.

UH lands pass-rusher

Jordan Silva, a defensive end/outside linebacker from Murrieta (Calif.) Valley High, told the Warrior Beat he has accepted a football scholarship from the Rainbow Warriors. Silva said he is 6-5, 240 pounds and is capable of running 40 yards in 4.7 seconds. In 10 games this past season, Silva had nine sacks. Fifty of his 74 tackles were solo stops.
