Pro day: Clay, Woodard stand out

SAN DIEGO — Charles Clay safety from Hilo, had a breakout performance at UH’s pro day this morning on the San Diego State campus. Clay ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds, the fastest time among the 11 former Rainbow Warriors. He also had a broad jump of 9 feet, 11 inches, and vertical jump of 37 1/2 inches. Linebacker set to join UH in 2015

The Rainbow Warriors landed their first 2015 recruit, securing a commitment from outside linebacker Jonah Moi of Riverside City College. Moi told the Warrior Beat he made the oral commitment yesterday. Moi said he is 6 feet 4 and 240 pounds. He said he will play his sophomore season at RCC  in 2014, earn an associate degree in December, and join the Warriors for the 2015 spring semester. Double duty for Schroeder

Sean Schroeder will be busy during pro day at the San Diego State complex on Thursday. UH’s session is scheduled for the morning; SDSU’s session is in the afternoon. Schroeder said he will throw passes during both workouts, expanding his exposure for NFL scouts. Schroeder has trained the past two months at a facility in Irvine, Calif. Assistant coach Chris Wiesehan has accepted the o -line coach’s job at Temple. * * * On March 22, 2003, the lights went out in the Stan Stan Sheriff. The outage occurred during a men’s volleyball match between Pacific and Hawaii. Critics have been questioning UH’s exploration of the feasibility of building a 30,000-or-so-seat, on-campus stadium. Money aside — and whatever the projected cost,  add 30 percent for the final expenses — does it make sense? Dawn patrol

At 5:05 this morning, strength/conditioning coordinator Gary Beemer arrived on the Manoa campus. Five minutes later, head coach Norm Chow showed up. By 5:30, the majority of defensive players had gathered, wearing “Rise” T-shirts. And by 6, when Beemer’s whistle sounded, the Rainbow Warriors were ready for Saturday’s first training session.
