Hawaii baseball: Minnesota Twins pick Dylan Thomas in 13th round

A year later and 25 rounds earlier, the Minnesota Twins selected pitcher Dylan Thomas in the 13th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft. Thomas was the Twins’ 38th-round choice in last year’s draft. But he opted to return to UH as a fourth-year junior. Hawaii basketball, football camps in June

Camp season begins this month, starting with tonight’s 808 Passing Academy event at Aloha Stadium. Former UH quarterback Sean Schroeder is picking up the tab for the free camp for high school-aged students interested in developing passing/receiving skills. Hawaii Football: Pac-12 Networks to air Washington game

As expected, the Pac-12 Networks will televise the Sept. 14 UH-Washington game in Seattle. The seven-year-old network has 17.9 million viewers. The kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. HT. Shortstop Maaki Yamazaki today was named to the All-Big West first team as a utility player. Yamazaki hit .308 while striking out a team-fewest 7.6 percent of his at bats. After suffering a shoulder injury on April 24, he was used at second base and designated hitter. Former UH football player Dakota Torres has reached an agreement to play for the Lixil Deers of Japan’s X-League. “I’m stoked and can’t wait to play and be immersed in a culture I am unfamiliar with,” Torres wrote in a text to the Warrior Beat. Nick Rolovich completed his coaching staff with the hiring of Johnnie Mack as a quality-control coach for offense. Mack will work under receivers coach Andre Allen. Allen coached Mack at City College of San Francisco in 2000 and 2001. After that, Mack was a running back and kickoff returner at Texas Tech under Mike Leach.
