Rasmussen, Hittner earn scholarships

The Warriors not only have a traditionally strong walk-on program, but they have been generous in rewarding good-character, hard-working players. Nose tackle Kory Rasmussen and long-snapper Brian Hittner are the latest walk-ons to be awarded football scholarships. The ‘Bows of summer

Yesterday was the first day of classes for nine first-year Warriors. They are enrolled in the so-called bridge program — two full-credit courses that run through early August. The program, available to all UH students, leads to the start of the Warriors’ training camp on Aug. 4. LB Gouveia joins Warriors

Dalton Gouveia — the son of Polynesian Football Hall of Fame member Kurt Gouveia — officially joins the Warriors today. Dalton Gouveia is a recent graduate of Charlotte Christian High in North Carolina. He arrived in Honolulu on Saturday, attended an orientation yesterday, and begins the bridge program today. It’s summer, and several Warriors hit the club. They had fun, made new friends, and stayed past 4. It was the Boys & Girls Club, and the Warriors and about 100 youths played dodgeball, pool, basketball and foosball way past 4 in the afternoon. Warriors complete first cycle

The Warriors ended the first phase of the offseason conditioning program with this morning’s 110-yard sprints and weight-training session. In accordance with NCAA guidelines requiring a week of “discretionary time,” the Warriors will resume the program on July 6. The facilities will be open to players wishing to train without supervision next week. “It was a lot of hard work,” strength/conditioning coordinator Gary Beemer said of the four-week cycle. “The kids worked hard. JC wideout joining Warriors

The Warriors are adding height and depth. Makoa Camanse-Stevens, a former Kamehameha Schools quarterback, has accepted an invitation to the Warriors’ training camp. He played the past two seasons at Arizona Western Junior College. He said he is 6 feet 4 and 205 pounds. He will compete at wideout, a position to which he switched in the middle of the 2014 season, although it is believed he also has the skill sets to even play on defense. Clarke, Wittek to represent UH

Two players who took different paths to Manoa — left tackle Ben Clarke and quarterback Max Wittek — will represent the Warriors at the 2015 Mountain West Conference Football Media Days in Las Vegas. Clarke signed in February 2011, grayshirted that fall and joined the Warriors in January 2012. Wittek was at USC for three years before transferring to UH last summer. Both are co-captains.
