Yesterday was the first day of classes for nine first-year Warriors. They are enrolled in the so-called bridge program — two full-credit courses that run through early August. The program, available to all UH students, leads to the start of the Warriors’ training camp on Aug. 4. Dalton Gouveia — the son of Polynesian Football Hall of Fame member Kurt Gouveia — officially joins the Warriors today. Dalton Gouveia is a recent graduate of Charlotte Christian High in North Carolina. He arrived in Honolulu on Saturday, attended an orientation yesterday, and begins the bridge program today. The Warriors ended the first phase of the offseason conditioning program with this morning’s 110-yard sprints and weight-training session. In accordance with NCAA guidelines requiring a week of “discretionary time,” the Warriors will resume the program on July 6. The Warriors are adding height and depth. Makoa Camanse-Stevens, a former Kamehameha Schools quarterback, has accepted an invitation to the Warriors’ training camp. He played the past two seasons at Arizona Western Junior College. He said he is 6 feet 4 and 205 pounds. Two players who took different paths to Manoa — left tackle Ben Clarke and quarterback Max Wittek — will represent the Warriors at the 2015 Mountain West Conference Football Media Days in Las Vegas.
