As a Northern Iowa safety, Garrett Scott made the calls and the plays. As a UNI graduate assistant the past two seasons, Scott coached, analyzed videos, charted plays, led the scout team, crafted strategy, made coffee, attended classes … Now Scott joins the Warriors as a graduate assistant with an emphasis on the defensive secondary. Agasiva to CC; gassers with a twist

Offensive lineman Jordan Agasiva, who signed with the Warriors in February, has enrolled at Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz. Agasiva will join 15 Hawaii residents, including three fellow Mililani High graduates. The Warriors had braced for the move, and will have about 15 offensive linemen in training camp. * * * * * Tuesdays are sprint workouts for the Warriors. Remember offensive dynamo John Ursua? He signed with UH in February 2012 and, after his Cedar High (Utah) graduation, went on a church mission. After completing his church work, Ursua learned he still needed to fulfill further academic requirements to join the Warriors. He was not included in the Warriors’ initial 2015 plans. LB’s status still on hold

Outside linebacker Makani Kema-Kaleiwahea’s status remains uncertain — but hopeful — as the NCAA considers his appeal and subsequent response for an application to play this season. Citing special family-related circumstances, Kema-Kaleiwahea is seeking an exemption to the rule requiring a player to redshirt after transferring from an FBS school to another. Kema-Kaleiwahea transferred from Arizona to UH in January. An amendment, which goes into effect this fall, initially disallowed any exemptions, even for those who transferred this past spring […]

Cornerback retires

Cornerback Anthony Pierce has been approved for a medical retirement. Pierce, who joined as a grayshirt in January 2013, will remain on full scholarship. He is expected to work as a student assistant this season. Pierce’s father is Antonio Pierce, who was an NFL linebacker for nine seasons. The elder Pierce is Long Beach Poly’s head coach. Former offensive lineman Kiha Sai and defensive tackle Mike Andrade also are on scholarship after being approved for medical retirements. * * * […]

Ex-Duck joins Warriors as GA

Ramsen Golpashin, a former Oregon football player, has joined the Warriors as a graduate assistant. He will assist offensive line coach Chris Naeole. Golpashin was co-captain on the Oregon team that lost to Auburn in the 2011 BCA National Championship game. Golpashin was the offensive line coach at College of the Canyons. He also worked as a chief-of-staff intern for the Ducks, helped created a marketing strategy for WNBA player Tamika Catchings’ non-profit organization, and served as project manager for […]
