The Warriors closed the training phase of the offseason conditioning program with this morning’s workout at Waikiki Beach. They ran eight 53s, four half-gassers, two full gassers and a 300. The weather is hot, the calendar says “July,” and the NCAA allows for a team meal. So the Warriors obliged with a barbecue, sand volleyball and a pool night. A couple weeks ago, we detailed how freshman nickel-linebacker Solomon Matautia cut the hair he had grown since the fourth grade to meet team requirements. Once again, about 20 Warriors spent time with their new friends at the Boys & Girls Club of Honolulu. They played dodgeball, pool and foosball, and offered advice on everything from academics to doing the right things. The Warriors also learned a lesson: Hawaii’s kids are skilled dodgeball players.
