Final rehearsal

By Stephen Tsai on September 11, 2015

COLUMBUS — The Warriors went through a modified one-hour practice this morning at Ohio Dominion College. It was the final workout before tomorrow’s game against top-ranked Ohio State. The Warriors flipped the schedule this season, using the game’s eve to test-run offensive and defensive plays and strategies. There were no pads or hitting. In past years, they would have walk-through sessions on Fridays. Former UH coach Rocky Alt attended today’s practice. Former head coach Bob Wagner will attend tomorrow’s game.

Columbus day

Columbus, Ohio — One hour here, no sign of King James (although he is supposed to be attending Saturday’s game). We’ll post pictures (hopefully) as we tour Columbus today. (“Ferd” and photographer Jamm arrived yesterday, and already have posted stories and pictures on the Star-Advertiser site.) The Warriors are scheduled to arrive at 8 p.m EDT (that’s 2 p.m. in Hawaii). Our good friend, Stretch, will be touring the Hall of Fame today.

Road Warriors

After this morning’s practice, the Warriors are scheduled to depart this afternoon. Three players who were iffy a few days ago — tight end Harold Moleni and linebackers Jerrol Garcia-Williams and Julian Gener — are healthy and on the 68-player travel roster. It also appears the Warriors will take four quarterbacks — Max Wittek, Ikaika Woolsey, Beau Reilly and Aaron Zwahlen. Because of the large national interest, the Warriors are taking two media-relations people.

Mid-week form

By Stephen Tsai on September 8, 2015

Temperatures — and temperaments — were heated during this morning’s practice on the grass field. After two passes were dropped during passing drills, the offense — and scouts — were required to do push-ups. Mid-week practices usually are the most intense, with effort and precision demanded, and the Warriors worked on tightening their focus and pace in preparation for Saturday’s game against Ohio State. The Warriors cut down on the length of practice — 70 minutes — but increased the […]

Making the list

By Stephen Tsai on September 7, 2015

The Warriors are trying to finalize the 68-player travel roster for the road game against Ohio State. Although there are no travel-roster restrictions for non-conference games, the Warriors have tried to be consistent with the limits for league games. Through last year, visiting teams were restricted to 64 active players for MWC games. This year, the number is upped to 68. Because Rigo Sanchez is a placekicker and punter, the Warriors are projected to keep to their goal of traveling […]

Warriors: Health update

By Stephen Tsai on September 6, 2015

The Warriors are reporting that no player suffered a significant injury against Colorado. That means that linebackers Julian Gener and Jerrol Garcia-Williams, both of whom were treated for apparent ailments, will be available for Saturday’s game against Ohio State. The availability has not been determined for running back Diocemy Saint Juste, who did not play against Colorado. The Warriors participated in conditioning drills and weight-lifting sessions yesterday. They are scheduled to practice this afternoon.

Warriors: Back to work

By Stephen Tsai on September 5, 2015

The Warriors will participate in conditioning drills and weightlifting sessions this afternoon after yesterday’s NCAA-mandatory off day. The Warriors have an after practice tomorrow and morning sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. They depart for the mainland on Wednesday afternoon. That will give the Warriors more prep time than Ohio State for the Sept. 12 game. OSU which plays at Virginia Tech on Monday.

Warriors: Day after

By Stephen Tsai on September 4, 2015

The day after began at 4:30 this morning when head coach Norm Chow walked into his office after a three-hour sleep. There were videos to watch, itineraries to script, and players to monitor. “It’s still a school day,” Chow said. “They have to go to school.” But Chow still had time to reflect in the 28-20 victory over Colorado. “We’re 1-0,” Chow said. “What else can you ask for?” Of note: > Two-point call: In crafting the game plan, Chow […]
