Game 3 aftermath

By Stephen Tsai on September 20, 2015

Sure, there was a tinge of excitement at the end, when UC Davis scored a couple touchdowns to make the final score appear to be not as destructive. But make no mistake, the Warriors had ended the suspense in the third quarter when they controlled the tempo and then the Aggies. For UH fans, there is addition hope: 1) Some of the injured, such as Quinton Pedroza and Diocemy Saint Juste, will be back soon, and 2) the offense hasn’t […]

Normalcy returns for the Warriors with a home game at the preferred time (6 p.m. kickoff) and day. There are concerns about health, with several players (including Ben Clarke, Tui Unga and Quinton Pedroza) as game-time decisions. As always, check for updates at: https://twitter.com/StephenTsai

Driving ’55

By Stephen Tsai on September 18, 2015

About 10 members of the UH team that defeated Nebraska, 6-0, in Lincoln in 1955, will serve as honorary captains for tomorrow’s game. The current Warriors benefit from first-person tales from the most astonishing victory in the program’s history. The attending ’55 players will join the Warriors for the traditional eve-of-the-game dinner at KCC. * * * * * Wideout/returner Keelan Ewaliko was excused from yesterday’s practice to attend a family situation on Maui. * * * * * Zach […]

Body count

By Stephen Tsai on September 17, 2015

In the past weekend’s game, it was noticeable that the Warriors — not top-ranked Ohio State — went to the reserves first. For the Warriors, the moves took strategy and restraint. The Warriors used only 59 of the 68 players on the travel roster. They held out some freshmen — such as linebacker Solomon Matautia, long-snapper/linebacker Noah Borden, and quarterback Aaron Zwahlen — to keep alive their redshirt possibilities. The Warriors, who already were down a linebacker, would have used […]

Corner, wideout commit to Warriors

By Stephen Tsai on September 16, 2015

In between playing the nation’s best team and preparing for Saturday’s opponent, the Warriors managed to add to the 2016 team, securing verbal commitments from: > Trey Hoskins, a 6-foot-3 cornerback from Dougherty Valley High in San Ramon, Calif. Hoskins played for a 7-on-7 traveling team coached by Maurice Jones-Drew, a former NFL running back. Jones-Drew and UH line coach Chris Naeole were teammates with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hoskins is picking UH over Utah State and San Jose State. Oregon […]

Recess

By Stephen Tsai on September 14, 2015

I’ll be tending to family matters for a couple days, so Jason Kaneshiro is at the wheel. Jason will have the updates and such (and maybe softball stories.) As for the blog, DPK, SteveM and UHFan808 are in charge. Be sure to refill the tank. Thanks.

Day after: Game 2

By Stephen Tsai on September 13, 2015

The Warriors’ defense played well, the offense did not. That, in a buckeye nutshell, summarizes the Warriors’ 38-0 loss to top-ranked Ohio State. The Warriors return to Hawaii today, then begin preparation for Saturday’s game against UC Davis. They also hope to receive health updates on such players as linebacker Julian Gener and tight end Tui Unga.

Game day: The Ohio State

By Stephen Tsai on September 12, 2015

COLUMBUS — The Warriors woke up early — 8 a.m. ET (2 a.m. HT) — for their usual game-day walk. There was drizzle and the temperature was 67 degrees, but the Warriors appeared to find the walk refreshing and unifying. After that, the schedule called for breakfast, meetings, pre-game meal and taping. It was just another pre-game schedule … in preparation for the nation’s No. 1 team in its home opener before more than 105,000 scarlet-and-gray wearing fans. * * […]
